House of Nature's Own - Raw Food Restaurant in Chico

Mr Q and I had a wonderful dinner tonight at a new raw restaurant in Chico - House of Nature's Own on Broadway in downtown Chico.

We shared a raw bruschetta that was great--they used a raw walnut mix as the "bread" and then a wonderful mix of tomatoes with olive oil and garlic and basil. Not so different from "ordinary" bruschetta, but they did a nice job with the seasoning--incl. kalamata olives, garlic (but not too much) and a cashew creme.

I ordered an enchilada which used a leaf of lettuce as the wrapper and was filled with a spicy mixture of something delicious. Yum.

Mr Q ordered a Hawaiian style pizza, which was an amplified bruschetta (same walnut crust again, and similar toppings) and again very good.

They have a very tangy lemonade sweetened with agave nectar. The first glass costs $2.50...but is refilled for free.

Finally, we had a coconut creme pie and a german cacao cake. I have to give the coconut creme pie a big thumbs up--it was wonderfully creamy. I didn't favor the german chocolate as much, but it was Mr Q's favorite.

Honestly, the biggest surprise: The food tasted as good as it looked! I was afraid that I would be hungry at the end of the meal, but we were both nicely satisfied at the end of the meal.

The chef came out and talked with us and was very pleasant. He's been veg for a number of years and trained in raw food preparation at an institute in the North Coast.

A few of the menu items have honey and/or propolis in them, but the two desserts we ordered did not.

That place sounds nice. I bet the chef was trained in Fort Bragg at Living light Institute. Spasticastic and I went there a while back and they had free samples of raw foods. Everything we had was amazing.

It's a resin-like substance that bees make.

Exactly right--he just finished training up there. I tried to google it so I could give the info, but didn't have the name of the place quite right.

He and his sister run the restaurant. She is veg also.
